Straight off the back of our very first Sunday Sessions at The Briars, we are so pleased with the results. The event was filled with hoards of young families and groups of friends coming together for a Sunday well spent with and for the community. Despite some testing weather conditions, an estimated 700- 800 people passed through the grounds bringing with them an air of support, fun and excitement that this free family friendly event was now part of the local calendar!

With the start of the school holidays and the late arrival of Spring, the atmosphere was full of energy and eagerness. Right from 11:00am floods of young families and groups of friends spilled into the grassy grounds of the Briars ready for a day of entertainment and activities.

It didn’t take long for the kids to jump into the Sunday Sessions box of games with giant jenga, mini tennis, football and table tennis, you couldn’t help but notice the relaxed look on parents faces as they thought ahead to the good nights sleep their little ones would be having that evening!

Live entertainment from local musicians set the mood perfectly as guests sat perched next to cocktail tables laid out in the Briars historic barn. With Red Hill brew on tap and an assortment of local wines to choose from, guests took in the friendly atmosphere with a drink in their hand and a smile on their face.

The live performance from local superstar Allzy wowed the crowd with the 16 year old sharing a mix of inspired covers and original tracks. You could tell the guests were taking a moment to enjoy music they knew would be playing on their radios in years to come.

With the chilled tunes spilling out of the rustic barn and out to the groups of people laying out on their picnic rugs, kids passed by taking pony rides and the sense of fun continued. Young Mount Martha musician Oskar Proy kicked up the tempo with an acoustic set that showed experience way beyond his years. Little Olive Café kept up the energy serving freshly brewed coffee from their funky coffee van and the team from Martha’s Table created unique plates filled with local produce. With calamari salads, falafels, slow cooked lamb and soft shell crab buns, the gourmet and handmade goodies offered inspired alternatives to standard food truck menus.

The atmosphere continued to build and local DJ Sophie Joy spun funky beats that had toes tapping and ended with the kids jumping up on stage to show off their best dance moves. As the day came to a close and the crowd headed off home, the vibes were so encouraging with everyone already looking forward to the next Sunday Session in October!
